AWWDITION PREP QUICK SHEET

• Read the entire awwdition brief — Know the role, project, tone, scene, submission instructions, deadline, and any special requests.
• Know your character — Understand who you are, who you are speaking to, what you want in the scene, and what is happening emotionally.
• MEMORIZE YOUR LINES — Whenever possible, know the material well enough that you can perform naturally instead of searching for the next line.
• If using a teleprompter, PRACTICE FIRST — Set the speed before the awwdition. Keep the text close to the camera so your eyes are not obviously moving back and forth. The goal is to sound natural, not like you are reading.
• Rehearse out loud — Do not only read the script silently. Practice it at performance volume several times.
• Make strong choices — Know your character's objective, energy, and point of view. Avoid delivering every line the same way.

• Hair is clean, styled, and camera-ready
• Face and grooming are clean and polished
• Wardrobe fits the character or requested look
• Clothing is clean, wrinkle-free, and distraction-free
• Avoid overly busy patterns, large logos, or distracting jewelry unless appropriate
• Check your entire appearance on camera before beginning

TIP: Dress to suggest the character. You usually do not need a full costume unless specifically requested.

• Camera is at or near eye level
• Camera lens is clean
• Face is clearly and evenly lit
• Background is clean and non-distracting
• Audio is clear with minimal background noise
• Phone notifications and other distractions are turned off
• Framing matches the casting instructions
• Reader is prepared and positioned close to the camera when needed
• Teleprompter is tested and ready, if being used

TIP: Always record a 10-second test first. Check framing, lighting, sound, wardrobe, and background before the actual awwdition.

• Take a moment before starting — Do not rush into the first line.
• Listen and react instead of simply waiting to speak
• Keep your eyeline consistent
• Speak clearly without over-projecting
• Stay present and conversational
• Do not stare directly into the camera unless instructed
• If you make a small mistake, stay in character and keep going
• Give yourself a moment after the final line before stopping the recording

• Watch the entire awwdition back
• Confirm your performance is strong
• Confirm audio is clear
• Confirm focus, lighting, and framing are correct
• Check that there are no distracting sounds or objects
• Include slate or full-body shot if requested
• Use the requested file name and format
• Follow all submission instructions
• Double-check the submission deadline
• Submit early whenever possible

• Know it so well you can forget it — Memorization gives you the freedom to actually act.
• Your first few seconds matter — Enter the scene already connected to the character and circumstances.
• Do not overdo it — On-camera performances often benefit from smaller, more believable choices.
• Use your reader — Listen to them and respond. Do not treat their lines as dead space between yours.
• Teleprompter does not equal preparation — It is a backup or tool, not an excuse to see the material for the first time during the awwdition.
• Do fewer, stronger takes — Prepare, make a choice, perform it, review it, and make targeted adjustments.
• Follow directions exactly — Great acting can still be undermined by ignoring casting instructions.
